Redhead Dominique Jane Sharpe is the Playboy Playmate of the Month August 2015.
The first redheaded Playmate of 2015 is of Irish origin (where ginger girls grow on trees). Her parents, who were born and raised in Dublin, moved from rainy Ireland to sunny California to work in advertising and marketing. They chose Topanga Canyon as the place to raise their free spirited daughter Dominique and that’s where she spent most of her youth.
Dominique earned a degree in fashion marketing and began working in Los Angeles. After a while, she discovered her love for modeling and acting. Her new career rocketed after being chosen by supermodel Janice Dickinson to appear on her Oxygen reality show, Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency. Soon, she began working with a number of well-known photographers such as Terry Richardson, Greg Gorman and Matthew Rolston.
“Not too long ago, if you told me I was going to be in Playboy or onstage with Kanye, I would have said you’re crazy.”
Crazy enough, she found herself involved in Kanye West’s hugely successful Yeezus tour. A friend recommended to her, and she even earned the blessing of Yeezy. “Supposedly, Kanye himself selected me from a group,” says Dominique.
Dominique wanted to be a Playmate since she was in her teens. She would visit tanning salons and put a Playboy logo sticker on her body so the Rabbit Head would be visible on her body. “I’d always tell friends, ‘One day…,’” says Dominique.
I have looked back at issues of Playboy from the 1960s and ’70s and those models reflected a more natural, diverse look than what became the standard over the next few decades. But I’ve since realized that Hef (who, by the way, is such a sweet man) and the magazine more recently have made a concerted effort to feature Playmates with a more “God-given gorgeous” look.
The Playboy shooting with Sasha Eisenman took place in a Chinese Restaurant called The Good Luck Bar on Chinese New Year. A fitting start for her ambition to become the next Playmate of the Year.
