Edo meets Araki
Daniel Nguyen, a French phtographer, discovered the world of Shibari (Kinbaku), the Japanese art of rope bondage through the work of Nobuyoshi Araki. Within years he became a skilled rigger, focusing on traditional ways of Shibari. He goes back to the early origins from the Edo period, working with jute rope, a bamboo frame and suspension. He is also an excellent photographer who captures his rope work perfectly framed. The images here show French performer, model and queer feminist Misungui delicately bound with Palm hemp ropes.
